A sum of Rs 10.50 crore has been provided by the Maharashtra Government for development of tourist spots in Thane district. The fund has been provided under the Regional Tourism Development programme of the Government, District Collector Abasaheb Jarhad said.

The move will help tourist inflow in the district located adjoining Mumbai. The project involves development of two spots in Palghar taluka and one in Vasai, he said. Shirgaon Satpati, a coastal location in Palghar, will be developed at a cost of Rs 3.67 crore, while Kelva Mahim, a beach in the same taluka, will be given a facelift at a cost of Rs 4.28 crore, the Collector said.

The Vasai beach and historical fort will be developed at a cost of Rs 2.53 crore, he said. The fund will be used for providing basic amenities and accommodation for tourists, good roads, construction of protection walls, and also for beautification and electrification of the areas, Jarhad added.
